Field of use: didactics on fuel cell systems engineering, demonstration, recreation
4WD fuel cell powered 1:10th racing car! The radio controlled model gets full advantage from a hybrid power generator. The fuel cell engine coupled to a 7-cell NiMH battery delivers instant power and long endurance altogether. The whole fuel cell system is enclosed in a double-shell body, ensuring protection against shocks, vibrations and external pollutants (sand, dust…).
The fuel cell has a central position in the body for optimal weight balance. Air ventilation is realistically inspired from a real car: air intake with dust filtering at the front, air flow cools the electronics first, then goes through the fuel cell for oxygen supply/cooling, the exhaust is ejected behind the car with two extraction fans. The body shell integrates the fuel cell controller, the hydrogen pressure reducer, the fuel cell , the purge valve, air ventilation and two H2 tanks. The body is connected to a high performance frame from Traxxas*. The famous 4×4 Traxxas Stampede high frame chassis holds the 7-cell battery, the motor controller, radio receiver, steering servo and Velineon brushless motor.
Power delivered to drivetrain is optimized by the system controller balancing the distribution between the fuel cell and the battery. Additional functions integrated in the fuel cell controller card are data logging and acceleration measurements on XYZ axis. FC and motor currents, FC and battery, 3-axis accelerations and run time are logged on onboard microSD card. Data logging starts automatically at first radio-command input.
Two tanks of 10 liters of hydrogen fit nicely and well protected in the body shell. They add 30Wh** of energy to the 25Wh stored in the NiMH battery, more than doubling the range of the truck. Hydrogen is stored safely at low pressure in shock resistant mini tanks. They can be quick refilled simultaneously in about 10 minutes.
The HyTRAX is delivered with PC software for data analysis. The software enables a quick and easy understanding of data logged during car runs: power consumption, energy delivered by the fuel cell and battery, power distribution related to accelerations and speeds…
The HyTRAX is delivered ready-to-race.
